This is what it looks like when we fire the plasma gun which is installed at MCX. The bright white / purplish light is the plasma itself. This view is from above and behind the gun, looking towards the Maryland Centrifugal eXperiment. The big gray steel pieces are housings for some of their electromagnets. The orange rubbery stuff on the left is a heating pad. (Heating a vacuum vessel makes it easier to pump out gasses like water that tend to stick to the wall.) The yellowish tube on the center/right is a brass diagnostic section. No actual probes are visible, but they would be inserted through the black pieces on top. Part of the gun itself is visible in the lower right corner, out of focus.
